Celebrating National SBDC Day 2026

March 18th is National SBDC Day - a nationwide celebration of the entrepreneurs who drive our local economies and the dedicated advisors who help them succeed.

At the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network, we believe that every great business starts with a great idea and the courage to take the first step.

When you have a big vision, the technical and financial hurdles can seem like a massive, unsolvable puzzle. Steen Stovall, Regional Director for Central Wyoming, emphasizes that our first job is to help you break that puzzle down into manageable pieces:

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by the technical or financial hurdles of starting a business — but progress begins with simplifying the path forward. Focus on the next practical step rather than the entire journey, and prioritize testing your idea before perfecting it. Most importantly, don’t navigate the process alone. Connecting with advisors, lenders, and trusted resources early can provide clarity, reduce risk, and turn uncertainty into a structured, manageable plan.

Kenny Overby, Regional Director serving Southeast Wyoming, echoes this sentiment. He reminds new entrepreneurs that the learning curve, while steep, is entirely doable with a guide by your side:

We always remind new or potential business owners that everything they need to learn is totally doable! ‘Where do I set up this account?’ or ‘What is required for this industry?’ can all feel like a lot, but that’s exactly why we are here! SBDC advisors are experts at listening to your unique situation, and helping you create a roadmap forward so that one step at a time you will be a confident business owner!

Each one of our business advisors has a unique professional background that clients can leverage… to answer any question about doing business in Wyoming!” says Overby. “No one advisor can know everything, but between our entire team we have both the educational and real-life experience combined with connections and resources to help businesses in all industries and of all sizes move to the next level.

What does that look like behind the scenes? Kyle Trumble, Regional Director for Fremont and Teton counties, explains the toolkit he and other Regional Directors bring to the table:

We can connect entrepreneurs to market research, website and social media analysis, government contracting assistance, innovation and research development, as well as Cybersecurity support. It’s great having a team of dedicated individuals committed to supporting small businesses in the state.

For us, SBDC Day isn’t just about celebrating our network; it’s about celebrating our client’s milestones. There is nothing more rewarding for an SBDC advisor than watching a client take the leap from idea to full-time reality.

As Stovall summarizes:

The SBDC is staffed by knowledgeable and dedicated professionals — and best of all, all services are provided at no cost.
